Supporting Community Efforts - Fall 2006 Grant Recipients
As a local philanthropic grantmaking organization, BCCF awards more than 400 grants annually and holds nearly 600 endowment funds.  Volunteer grant review committees are made up of adult and youth community representatives that review the proposals. Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis.   Grants for this fall were awarded from the Fund for Battle Creek, Health Fund, and The William G. and Marion E. Stuckle Fund with a combined total of over $202,188.

Organizations and programs that received funding included: 
  • Battle Creek Health System – Cancer Care Center Expansion:  Funding will provide critical expansion of the Cancer Care Center, the only provider of such services in our area.  Growth is expected over the next five years.  Recently, the Cancer Care Center was honored with the 2006 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer – one of only 39 winners in the nation; and the only recipient in Michigan. ($50,000)

  • Fallen Officers Memorial Committee – Fallen Officers Memorial:  Funds will support this project which will serve to provide needed public recognition for those officers who have given their lives for public safety and as a reminder to all that such service will not be forgotten. ($10,000)

  • Kingman Museum, Inc. – Collaborative Marketing:  Funds will support Leila Arboretum Society/Children’s Garden, Art Center of Battle Creek, Kingman Museum and Heritage Battle Creek as these organizations execute a collaborative marketing project.  The goal is to present these places as “destination spots” bringing in highly coveted tourism dollars year round that will help sustain not only the organizations but the community as a whole.

  • S.A.F.E. Place – Empowerment Based Treatment:  Funding will serve to create an empowerment-based treatment program to assist victims through every aspect of the treatment process. ($8,000)

  • SNAG MAG – Magazine Publication:  Funding will support the development and publication of a 50 page, full color, glossy magazine targeting the 18-35 age group.  The content will focus on arts & culture, health, politics, music and films. ($6,550)

The above grants were awarded from the Fund for Battle Creek.

  • Calhoun Health Plan – Prescription Drug Access Program (PDAP) & Physician Collaborative:  Funding will be to support this program which provides individuals access to free medications.  The PDAP Program meets with patients, reviews medications, determines eligibility, gathers proof of eligibility, manages receipt and control of medications and finally distribution. ($75,000)

The above grant was jointly awarded from Health Fund ($40,000), William G. & Marion E. Stuckle Fund ($30,000) and Fund for Battle Creek ($5,000).

  • Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (P.A.C.E.) – Executive Director Position:  Funding will help cover the costs associated with hiring an Executive Director, with the Battle Creek Community Foundation providing coordination and fiscal oversight. ($50,000)

The above grant was jointly awarded from the William G. & Marion G. Stuckle Fund ($10,000) and Health Fund. ($40,000) 

  • Volunteer Center – 211 Impact Expansion:  Funding will support a three-fold 211 Impact Expansion involving expansion of the 211 database to provide greater depth and adding new services and programs offered by agencies throughout Calhoun County.  The Expansion will also involve assisting agencies and organizations in understanding how they can benefit from the 211 program and helping individuals better understand how to utilize 211. ($10,000

The above grant was jointly awarded from William G. & Marion E. Stuckle Fund ($5,000) and Fund for Battle Creek ($5,000).

  • Battle Creek Family YMCA – Strategic Long Term Planning:  Funding will be to support hiring a strategic planner and a market research firm to help formulate, measure and validate the YMCA vision and strategies for the future into a solid plan of actions with clear direction.  The process will include studies, focus groups, an investigation of program best practices and site visits to see how other successful communities are making a difference.  ($25,638)

The above grant was jointly awarded from Health Fund ($10,000), William G. & Marion E. Stuckle Fund ($3,000), Peter R. Ellis Youth Fund ($6,000) and Fund for Battle Creek ($6,638).
